It is Sunday, August thirtieth, two thousand twenty-six. Let’s dive in.
A fashion-and-museum firestorm is brewing around the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s planned exhibition devoted to designer John Galliano, and a New York Times report says Pace Gallery founder Arne Glimcher is among those criticizing it privately. The Times reported Friday that donors have threatened to rescind or withhold gifts since the show was announced in July, and that Glimcher emailed David Breslin, the Met curator in charge of the modern and contemporary art department, writing, “I don’t think you have considered the cost of this action and its reverberations to come.” He added that he and his wife, Milly, were “seriously reconsidering” works earmarked for the Met in their wills. The Galliano show is expected to be the Costume Institute’s big May show next year, with the Met Gala falling on Yom HaShoah.
