111 Artists Announced for the Venice Biennale

Artnet News reported on 25 February 2026 that 111 participating artists have been announced for “In Minor Keys,” the main exhibition of the 61st Venice Biennale, conceived by the late curator Koyo Kouoh. The exhibition is being realized by Kouoh’s collaborators—Gabe Beckhurst Feijoo, Marie Helen Pereira, Rasha Salti, Rory Tsapayi—with Siddhartha Mitter editing the catalog, following planning meetings including a gathering in Dakar last April. The participant list includes 105 individual artists or collectives (with birth years ranging from 1943 to 1997) and six artist-led organizations such as Denniston Hill, Raw Material Company, GAS Foundation, and the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institution. Two major “shrines” will honor Issa Samb (died 2017, aged 71) and Beverly Buchanan (died 2015, aged 74), and a “procession” motif includes artists such as Alvaro Barrington, Nick Cave, Big Chief Demond Melancon, Godfried Donkor, Pio Abad, and Ebony G. Patterson.
