A Guerrilla Girl Drops Her Mask
Artist Joyce Kozloff publicly identified herself as a founding member of the feminist collective Guerrilla Girls, ending 41 years of anonymity, in an interview with Art Journal Open. Kozloff said her Guerrilla Girls pseudonym was “Liubov Popova,” reflecting the group’s practice of adopting names of deceased women artists to conceal members’ identities. Hyperallergic also notes that Kozloff published a biographical essay in 2016 that aligned with this alias by focusing on the Russian artist Popova. The same news roundup reports that President Donald Trump added a bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson to the White House Rose Garden and that Vanderbilt University’s forthcoming San Francisco arts and design campus will be named for Nvidia co-founder Jensen (Jen-Hsun) Huang after he committed millions to the institution.
