Adam Lindemann Sued by Nature Conservancy for Allegedly Installing Julian Schnabel Sculpture Without Permission
Dealer Adam Lindemann is being sued by the Nature Conservancy in a case filed on August 20 in the US District Court for New York’s Eastern District, alleging he installed Julian Schnabel’s 25-foot-tall sculpture Ahab on the Andy Warhol Visual Arts Preserve in Montauk without permission. The Nature Conservancy says Lindemann trespassed on the preserve—donated in 1992 by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts—and also parked vehicles, mowed lawns, and planted shrubs on the property. Lindemann owns the adjacent six-acre estate Eothen, which he bought from J.Crew CEO Millard Drexler for $50 million in 2015, according to the Real Deal. The lawsuit states the conservancy first demanded removal in a December 2024 letter and that Lindemann later agreed to remove the sculpture by August 31, 2025, later emailing on September 7, 2025 that he was moving it with Schnabel’s team.
