Anne Imhof to Debut New Ballet-Inspired Performance at Hong Kong’s Tai Kwun Contemporary
Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong announced that Anne Imhof will present her first solo exhibition in Asia, titled “House of Swans,” opening next month and spanning three floors of the JC Contemporary and F Hall galleries. Curated by Ying Kwok and Tiffany Leung, the show will combine installations, paintings, videos, and live performance, juxtaposing oil painting, bronze sculpture, and ballet with large-scale sound and physical action to explore themes of bodily presence, restriction, and authority. Imhof’s collaborators and the Hong Kong Ballet will stage the performance House of Swans on September 25 and 26, with additional performances occurring during the exhibition’s run. The project is framed as a companion to Imhof’s three-hour DOOM at New York’s Park Avenue Armory last year, and it will include new works such as an untitled 2025 bronze relief and Citizen (2025), an 81-minute video described as containing suggestions of violence and scenes involving trans bodies; principal American Ballet Theatre dancer Devon Teuscher is reported to star in the new performance.
