At Mexico City’s Material and Salón Acme fairs, artists find hope in nature
During Mexico City Art Week, the satellite fairs Feria Material and Salón Acme drew record crowds at VIP previews on 5 February 2026, with Material reporting its biggest opening-day attendance ever after moving to Maravilla Studios and Salón Acme quickly reaching capacity at Proyectos Públicos. Material, co-founded and directed by Brett W. Schultz, has more than 70 exhibitors in 2026, with about half from Latin America and the rest from North America, Europe, and Asia. Among highlighted presentations is Montréal’s Galerie Hugues Charbonneau showing a solo booth of works on paper and sculptures by Sri Lankan Canadian artist Rajni Perera, including 2025 works from her “Phylogeny” series priced at $16,000 that depict animals adapting to toxic environments and reference colonial and environmental histories.
