Beyoncé Gives the Studio Museum in Harlem a $2 M. Gift on Her Birthday
Beyoncé Knowles marked her 45th birthday on September 4 by donating $2 million to the Studio Museum in Harlem, according to ARTnews. Museum director and chief curator Thelma Golden said the gift will help the institution continue its community-focused mission, though the museum did not immediately specify how the funds will be used. The Studio Museum, founded in 1968, reopened in November in a new $160 million David Adjaye–designed building on 125th Street after a seven-year closure, and has recently shown works by artists including Barkley K. Hendricks, Kerry James Marshall, Howardena Pindell, Faith Ringgold, and Carrie Mae Weems.
