Brett Littman Named Next Director of MCA San Diego
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) named Brett Littman as its next director and chief executive, with a start date in October. Littman, selected after a six-month national search, will be the museum’s fifth director in its 85-year history and succeeds Kathryn Kanjo, who left in January after 15 years to lead the newly merged UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art. A UC San Diego alumnus, Littman previously held senior roles at MoMA PS1, the Drawing Center (where he led an $11 million capital campaign and expanded the board), and the Noguchi Museum (where he doubled the budget to $9 million in five years and restructured operations toward $8 million in annual revenue). MCASD reopened in 2022 after a three-year closure tied to a $105 million Selldorf Architects expansion that doubled its footprint, quadrupled gallery space, and helped grow the collection to more than 5,700 works made after 1950.
