Chanel Renews Financial Support of Centre Pompidou During Long-Term Renovation
Paris’s Centre Pompidou announced a renewed five-year partnership with Chanel as the museum prepares for a long closure through 2030 during a renovation estimated at over $500 million. Chanel and the Pompidou began collaborating in 2019, and in 2024 Chanel sponsored the acquisition of 21 works by 15 contemporary Chinese artists, including Alice Chen, Chen Wei, Cui Jie, Hu Xiaoyuan, and Lu Yang, tied to the exhibition “目 China: A New Generation of Artists.” The expanded support is intended to fund access, scholarship, and preservation of public knowledge, according to the museum. The renovation plan, first announced in spring 2023 with a then-budget of $283 million, includes work on the Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers building, relocating Constantin Brancusi’s studio into the main museum, and rehanging the collection.
