Chief executive of Sydney’s anticipated Parramatta Powerhouse museum steps down two months before grand opening

Lisa Havilah has stepped aside as chief executive officer of Sydney’s A$915m Powerhouse Parramatta museum project, New South Wales arts minister John Graham announced on 27 August, pending investigations into governance and procurement. The museum, designed by Moreau Kusunoki with Genton and featuring more than 18,000 square metres of public and exhibition space, is still scheduled to open on 7 November, according to Powerhouse Trust president David Borger. NSW government architect Abbie Galvin will act as CEO, with former Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron as strategic advisor, while Cassandra Wilkinson—appointed chief operating officer in July—joins amid scrutiny of more than A$70 million spent ahead of the opening. The opening plans include a community day and access to five new exhibitions, including Task Eternal on space travel.
