Collector Dimitris Daskalopoulos donates 51 contemporary works to four museums in Greece and Scotland

Greek collector Dimitris Daskalopoulos is donating 51 contemporary artworks—mostly by Greek artists—to four museums in Greece and Scotland as part of an ongoing philanthropic campaign. The National Gallery of Greece in Athens will receive 29 works dating from the 1960s to the 1990s by artists including Io Angeli, Konstantinos Andreou, Spyros Vikatos, Alekos Fassianos, George Vorres, and Kostis Georgiou; Momus–Museum of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki will receive 16 works including pieces by Jay Heikes, Subodh Gupta, Seth Price, Catharina Van Eetvelde, and Kelley Walker. The Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete will receive three works (Nobuko Tsuchiya, Ioanna Pantazopoulou, Nana Sachini), and National Galleries Scotland in Edinburgh will receive three works (Mike Kelley, Bruce Nauman, Margarita Myrogianni); a spokesperson said Daskalopoulos will not claim any tax advantages for the gift. Daskalopoulos founded the Athens-based foundation Neon in 2013, which is due to close later this year, and he is also funding the D. Daskalopoulos Arts Building at Athens College, due to open in June next year.
