Cyberattack on Dresden State Art Collections Lasted Days, Authorities Reveal
German authorities disclosed that a January cyberattack on the Dresden State Art Collections lasted several days, from January 17 to 21, and that the perpetrators remain unidentified. The Dresden State Art Collections, which includes around 15 museums, said “large parts” of its digital infrastructure were targeted, disrupting phone and online services such as ticket sales while keeping the museums open. Saxony’s culture ministry said security systems protecting the collections remained intact, and the case was referred to the Central Office for Cybercrime Saxony (ZCS) within the General Prosecutor’s Office in Dresden. The network includes major sites such as the Green Vault, the Old Masters Picture Gallery, and the New Masters Gallery, with holdings including works by Raphael, Vermeer, Claude Monet, and Auguste Rodin.
