David Hockney to create ten metre-long window installation for Turner Contemporary

Artist David Hockney will create a large-scale window installation for Turner Contemporary in Margate, UK, as part of the gallery’s 15th anniversary celebrations. The work, measuring roughly seven by ten metres, will cover the Sunley Gallery’s floor-to-ceiling window and depict a sunrise in Normandy based on a 2020 iPad painting; it will be on view from 1 April to 1 November 2026 and illuminated at night. Turner Contemporary reported more than 322,000 visitors in 2023–24 (year ending 31 March 2024). The article also notes that the Serpentine Galleries will open its first exhibition of Hockney’s work from 12 March to 23 August 2026, including the 90m-long frieze A Year in Normandy (2020–21).
