Dubai Plans a Massive New Museum for Digital Art
Dubai has announced plans for a new Museum of Digital Art (MODA), a major institution dedicated to tech-driven art forms such as immersive and interactive experiences. MODA is part of Dubai’s $27 billion plan to transform its financial center into a tech hub, though no budget or completion date has been disclosed. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairperson of Dubai Culture, said the museum will advance the city’s goal of uniting creativity and technology, and it will be designed by Chicago-based Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. The announcement comes amid heavy Gulf investment in digital culture, including Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Art Futures (launched in 2024) and Abu Dhabi’s 183,000-square-foot teamLab Phenomena complex unveiled last year, and as Art Dubai’s digital section (launched in 2022) continues to expand.
