Elvira Dyangani Ose appointed artistic director of Cape Town's Zeitz MoCAA
Elvira Dyangani Ose, formerly director of Barcelona’s Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Macba), has been appointed artistic director of Cape Town’s Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MoCAA) and will begin in October. She replaces Koyo Kouoh, the museum’s former executive director and chief curator, who died last year, and the institution has retitled the role from “chief curator” to “artistic director” as part of a new joint leadership model with managing director Fawaz Mustapha overseeing operations and governance. Dyangani Ose previously led the Showroom London and held curatorial roles at Creative Time and Tate Modern, where she helped develop a strategy for collecting art from Africa and its diaspora; she is also a doctoral candidate at Cornell University. Zeitz MoCAA opened in September 2017 in a Thomas Heatherwick-designed waterfront grain-silo complex, built around the collection of Jochen Zeitz, former Puma chief executive.
