First Swiss edition of Zero 10, Art Basel’s digital art initiative, explores medium’s ‘historical arc’

Art Basel’s digital art initiative Zero 10 is making its Swiss debut after launching at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2025 and appearing at Art Basel Hong Kong earlier in 2026. Co-curator Trevor Paglen argues that much art made over the past 20 years is effectively digital because even “traditional” media often rely on digital processes, while screen-based works must be converted into physical display. Senior adviser Eli Scheinman (formerly director of art at Yuga Labs, associated with Bored Ape Yacht Club) and Paglen say the Swiss edition confronts skepticism tied to the NFT bubble and fears about AI, including works like Aziza Kadyri’s A Borrowed Hand (2026), made with a custom-trained AI model. They also aim to provide historical context, with roughly one-third of participating artists active in the 1950s–1970s, including algorithmic-art pioneer Vera Molnár (died 2023).
