Frieze Seoul to move to new venue from 2027

Frieze Seoul announced it will move to Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the Zaha Hadid–designed cultural center that opened in 2014, starting with the fair’s 2027 edition because its current venue, COEX, is being redeveloped. Frieze said DDP’s exhibition halls will provide a “more concentrated footprint,” and that the 2027 fair will be “carefully edited” to give each gallery greater prominence within a single environment. The concurrent Kiaf Seoul fair will remain at COEX, but the two fairs will continue their partnership and offer a joint ticket, according to Galleries Association of Korea president Sunghoon Lee. COEX, which opened in 1979, is undergoing a major redevelopment led by Heatherwick Studios and is due for completion in 2029.
