Gagosian exits locations in Basel and London's Burlington Arcade

Gagosian has exited 28–29 Burlington Arcade in central London, a two-storey space it began programming in October 2023, and plans to leave its Basel gallery at Rheinsprung 1 in the coming months, according to a gallery spokesperson. The Burlington Arcade site included a ground-floor Gagosian Shop and an upstairs exhibition space, hosting 16 shows; its final exhibition, closing 18 July, focused on works related to site-specific projects by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Gagosian said it agreed to vacate Burlington Arcade so the owner could secure a long-term commercial tenant, and it is exploring other real estate options in Basel, where it opened in 2019 and has staged 17 shows. The moves follow other mega-gallery downsizing, including Pace’s search for a smaller London space after layoffs and roster cuts, and reports that David Zwirner is leaving its 34 East 69th Street townhouse in Manhattan.
