Guggenheim Museum to Livestream Select World Cup Matches, Screen Art Film on Legendary Football Star Zinédine Zidane
The Guggenheim Museum in New York will livestream select World Cup matches on Friday afternoons this summer at Frank Pub’s, a pop-up at the Wright (the museum’s restaurant), with access free to members and included with same-day museum admission. Scheduled games include Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina (June 12), US vs. Australia (June 19), Norway vs. France (June 26), Match 88 in the Round of 32 (July 3), and Match 98 in the Quarterfinals (July 10). The museum will also screen Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno’s “Zidane, a 21st century portrait” (2006) on a continuous loop in the Peter B. Lewis Theater from June 11 to July 19 as part of its “Collection in Focus” series. The 90-minute, two-channel work—one of 17 unique versions—uses footage from 17 synchronized cameras to follow Zinédine Zidane during a match played in Madrid on April 23, 2005.
