The 16th Gwangju Biennial in South Korea, running September 5 to November 15, 2026, has announced a list of more than 40 participating artists and groups, first published by e-flux. The exhibition is curated by Singaporean artist and filmmaker Ho Tzu Nyen, appointed in April 2025, with assistant curators Che Kyongfa, Park Gahee, Brian Kuan Wood, Lee Yein, and Koyuri Sato. Titled “You Must Change Your Life,” after the final line of Rainer Maria Rilke’s sonnet “Archaic Torso of Apollo,” the biennial focuses on ongoing change and transformation. Participants include Matthew Barney, Lygia Clark, Tehching Hsieh, Saodat Ismailova, Lu Yang, Goldin+Senneby, and many others, continuing a biennial tradition that began in 1995 and has previously involved curators such as Okwui Enwezor (2008), Hou Hanru (2002), and Harald Szeemann (2012).
