Hew Locke, Oscar Murillo Tapped for Skulptur Projekte Münster 2027
Skulptur Projekte Münster, the decennial public art exhibition, announced the first five artists for its next edition opening in June 2027, including Hew Locke and Oscar Murillo. The announcement was made by artistic directors What, How & for Whom (WHW)—Ivet Ćurlin, Nataša Ilić, and Sabina Sabolović—who said the 2027 edition will respond to a darker global political climate and will ultimately include about 30 artists making site-specific projects. WHW cited China Miéville’s 2009 novel The City & the City as a conceptual lens for examining how urban space shapes social order amid wealth disparity, far-right politics, and threats to free speech. Planned commissions include a large Locke installation at the Haus der Niederlande, Selma Selman’s reimagining of the former Hörster Friedhof cemetery, and Iza Tarasewicz’s nature- and seasonal-cycle-informed work at Gut Kinderhaus.
