Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, American artist and satirist, has died at age 40 in São Paulo, local media reports

American artist and social media satirist Hilde Lynn Helphenstein—known in the art world as “Jerry Gogosian”—has died at age 40, according to local media in Brazil. She was found dead at the Rosewood hotel in São Paulo on May 31, and a hotel spokesperson confirmed to Hyperallergic that she was found deceased in a room on Sunday afternoon. Helphenstein’s Jerry Gogosian Instagram account, launched in 2018 after she was bedridden for a year with illness, amassed more than 151,000 followers and helped lead to projects including Sotheby’s 2022 sale “Suggested Followers: How the Algorithm is Always Right.” She also signed with United Talent Agency in February 2024, published The Jerry Report on Substack, and launched the Art Smack podcast in late 2022.
