How Nicolas Winding Refn and Hideo Kojima Turned Friendship Into an Art Installation
Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn and Japanese video game creator Hideo Kojima have expanded their collaborative installation into Satellites II, presented in New York at the Hotel Chelsea as part of Prada Mode. Running June 3–7, 2026, the project transforms parts of the historic hotel into a space-station-like environment with silver rooms and cloud motifs, described as a “spatial narrative.” The installation centers on pairs of retro-futuristic television sets showing footage of Refn and Kojima reflecting on connection, creativity, identity, and death in English and Japanese, framing their long-distance friendship as an on-air dialogue. The first version of the collaboration debuted at Prada’s Aoyama store in Tokyo in 2025.
