In a New Documentary, Artists Get Candid About AI
Hyperallergic reported on a new 19-minute documentary, “How Creative Workers Are Impacted by AI” (2026), in which artists discuss practical and ethical concerns about generative AI, including client demands to replicate AI-generated references and fears of job loss. The film, directed by Jan Oliver Lucks and produced by the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP), premiered exclusively on Hyperallergic and draws on SNAAP’s 2025 Pulse Survey on AI and Work, which gathered responses from more than 2,000 postsecondary arts and design graduates across over 100 US colleges and universities. Survey findings cited include that 90% of respondents were skeptical of AI-generated output due to concerns such as environmental impact, copyright, and privacy, while about half reported already using AI professionally. SNAAP Senior Research Fellow Joanna Woronkowicz said the results reflect a field navigating disruption in real time, and the accompanying research emphasizes inequality in adoption based on who has the time, training, trust, and working conditions to make AI useful.
