Jacolby Satterwhite Receives Inaugural Artists Living With Cancer Grant From Rema Hort Mann Fund and Robert Rauschenberg Foundation
Jacolby Satterwhite was named the inaugural recipient of the Artists Living With Cancer Grant, a new $25,000 award co-presented by the Rema Hort Mann Fund (RHMF) and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. He is scheduled to receive the grant at RHMF’s 30th anniversary gala on October 28, and the program provides unrestricted support to New York City metro area visual artists undergoing active cancer treatment. RHMF said it has distributed more than $9 million over 30 years, supporting over 650 artists through emerging artist grants and 2,300 cancer patients through the Peter Hort Quality of Life Cancer Grants; Peter Hort died in 2022 at age 51 of bile duct cancer. Satterwhite (born 1986 in Columbia, South Carolina; based in Brooklyn) discussed his long-term experience as a cancer patient and his recent recovery from osteomyelitis that required extensive medical care, noting that he is rebuilding his studio practice through occupational therapy and rehab.
