Jenny Holzer and Andy Goldsworthy Win $95,000 Praemium Imperiale Award
Jenny Holzer and Andy Goldsworthy are among the five recipients of Japan’s 37th Praemium Imperiale, a major international lifetime-achievement prize, and will each receive 15 million yen (about $95,000). Holzer, honored in the painting category, is known for text-based works and previously won the Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion in 1990; she has a forthcoming solo exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris this fall and a show at the Fundação de Serralves in Porto on view until November 1. Goldsworthy, honored in sculpture, is known for site-responsive works using natural materials and currently has a solo exhibition at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, New York, running until November 8. The other 2026 laureates are actor Cate Blanchett, architect Daniel Libeskind, and conductor Herbert Blomstedt, and the Japan Art Association also awarded a 5 million yen (about $32,000) grant to France’s La Source Garouste association.
