Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project Adds AI to Provenance Search Tool
The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project (JDCRP), founded in Berlin in 2016, announced that it has added AI capabilities to its provenance research platform, Legacy Explorer, which launched last year. The tool currently searches five archives—including the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg archive at the Jeu de Paume in Paris—and JDCRP said a sixth archive will be added later this month. With AI document-scanning and expanded partnerships, users can now pull related information about the same object across multiple archives simultaneously rather than searching each database one by one. JDCRP board chair Wesley A. Fisher, also director of research for the Claims Conference, said the platform addresses the lack of a single place to search archival documentation for an object’s provenance, and executive board chair Deirdre Berger said the expansion will help descendants trace property stolen from their families during the Nazi era.
