John M Armleder Reframes Centuries of Art History at MAH Geneva
Swiss artist John M Armleder is leading the 2026 edition of the Musée d’art et d’histoire (MAH) Geneva’s Carte Blanche initiative with “John M Armleder: Observatoires,” a project that recontextualizes the museum’s historic collection through thematic, non-didactic room groupings. The exhibition encourages self-guided viewing and uses playful interventions—such as an oversized disco ball and large graphic lobsters—to create new dialogues between contemporary gestures and MAH’s classical architecture. It also includes newly commissioned temporary structures inspired by Armleder drawings held in the museum’s permanent collection, foregrounding ideas of space and impermanence. The invitation is closely tied to MAH’s holdings of more than 500 works by Armleder, including his large-scale “Furniture Sculptures.”
