JR's wrapped Pont Neuf installation in Paris damaged in storm

French artist JR’s temporary inflatable installation wrapping Paris’s Pont Neuf, titled La Caverne du Pont Neuf, was damaged in a storm and its opening has been postponed, according to a project statement dated June 2. The work had been scheduled to run from June 6 to June 28, but a vast trompe l’oeil canvas surrounding the bridge was torn, Euronews reported. The project statement said technical experts are assessing what caused the incident and that a new opening date will be set after the assessment. JR’s website states the installation is not government-funded and is supported by sales of JR’s works and private backers including Snap Inc., Bloomberg Philanthropies, Paris Aéroport, and Salesforce, and it pays homage to Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s 1985 The Pont Neuf Wrapped.
