Kulapat Yantrasast Named Artistic Director of Next Bukhara Biennial
Architect Kulapat Yantrasast, founder and creative director of WHY Architecture and a designer of major museum projects including work for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre, has been appointed artistic director of the 2027 Bukhara Biennial in Uzbekistan. The second edition will run from 3 September to 21 November 2027, following a debut biennial that organizers estimate drew about 1.8 million visitors and featured more than 70 projects across Bukhara’s historic center. Yantrasast succeeds Diana Campbell, who led the inaugural edition titled “Recipes for Broken Hearts,” commissioned by Gayane Umerova and the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF). He said the biennial will continue collaborations between international artists and local artisans while expanding to include ecologists, scientists, anthropologists, and community groups, with topics such as water shortages, air quality, and biodiversity.
