Lawrence Abu Hamdan and Lydia Ourahmane among artists confirmed for new Qatar quadrennial

Qatar Museums announced further details of a new quadrennial, Rubaiya Qatar, opening in November 2026 across Doha and other sites in Qatar, with more than 50 artists and over 20 new commissions. The flagship exhibition, “Unruly Waters,” will be curated by Tom Eccles, Ruba Katrib, Mark Rappolt, and Shabbir Hussain Mustafa, and will take place at Al Riwaq and additional venues. Confirmed artists include Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Lydia Ourahmane, Sophia Al Maria, Mohamed Bourouissa, Ade Darmawan, Alia Farid, Naiza Khan, Dala Nassar, Marina Tabassum, and Rirkrit Tiravanija. The exhibition will also incorporate historic objects from Qatar Museums, including material from the Cirebon shipwreck (a 10th-century merchant vessel salvaged in 2003), and its title references Sunil Amrith’s 2018 book “Unruly Waters,” framing Qatar’s geopolitical role through the motif of water.
