Low Kee Hong chosen to curate Biennale of Sydney's next edition

Low Kee Hong has been appointed artistic director of the 26th Biennale of Sydney, scheduled for 2028, following his work as creative director of Factory International in Manchester. His recent project includes curating the exhibition and performance “Ai Weiwei: Button Up!” which runs until September 6. Low said engagement with Indigenous communities in Australia will be central to his approach, emphasizing longer time scales beyond the biennale’s typical three-month duration. His appointment follows controversy at the 25th Biennale of Sydney, which closed June 14, including criticism of artistic director Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi’s absence from the media preview and a police investigation into comments by DJ Haram on opening night that was dropped for insufficient evidence.
