Man Causes ‘Catastrophic Damage’ to Chihuly Glass Museum in Seattle
Seattle police say a 40-year-old man caused “catastrophic damage” at the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum late Monday night, resulting in an estimated $240,000 in losses. According to the Seattle Police Department, the man destroyed multiple outdoor glass plant sculptures by Dale Chihuly, leaving large shards scattered on walking paths, and was arrested for assault after being identified by security. Police allege he threw broken glass at security and attempted to stab a security officer with a shard, though no one was injured. The Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, located at Seattle Center, opened in 2012 and houses major Chihuly works, including a 100-foot-long suspended installation resembling a wreath of red flowers.
