Mega Gallery Pace is Dropping Some 50 Artists, 50 Staff in ‘Model Correction’
Pace Gallery, which operates seven locations worldwide, is cutting about 50 artists from its roster and laying off roughly 50 staff as part of what CEO Marc Glimcher called a “model correction,” ARTnews reported. Glimcher said Pace will reduce its artist roster from 135 to about 85 (around a 30% cut) and shrink staff about 20% to roughly 200 from about 250, while remaining a global gallery. The New York Times reported the layoffs first, and ARTnews cited sources saying the story appeared before layoffs were executed, prompting confusion ahead of a planned 9 a.m. Thursday town hall. Artists no longer listed on Pace’s website reportedly include Keith Coventry, TeamLab, John Gerrard, and Glenn Kaino, amid broader market contraction and high operating costs.
