Mexico City street market gallery makes art accessible
Galería Tianguis Neza, a pop-up gallery operating every Sunday inside Mexico City’s La Lagunilla street market, sells artworks directly from artists at “precios de tianguis” (street-market prices) to make collecting more accessible. Artist Luis Valverde founded the project in 2021 during the пандемic downturn, in collaboration with artist David Azael, to create a comfortable commercial setting for artists and casual buyers. The gallery has attracted a mix of local and international visitors and has hosted encounters with artists such as Tania Candiani and Teresa Margolles, as well as curators. Its growth has helped turn Jaime Nunó Street into an emerging art corridor with additional stands selling works by local creators and independent fashion brands.
