Minnesota State Fair Removes Anti-Trump Crop Art After Artist Was Harassed
The Minnesota State Fair removed a crop-art entry reading “8647” in yellow corn kernels after the artist requested its takedown due to harassment, threats, and doxxing by right-wing agitators. The slogan is commonly interpreted as anti–Donald Trump, with “86” meaning to get rid of something and “47” referring to Trump as the 47th US president. According to reporting cited by Hyperallergic, conservative outlet Alpha News amplified the artwork on social media, after which others allegedly shared the artist’s private address and personal details. Fellow crop artist Ike Whiting told Hyperallergic the artist contacted the fair out of concern for her safety, calling the harassment “shocking and unacceptable.”
