Misan Harriman to step down as chair of London's Southbank Centre

Photographer and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Misan Harriman said he will step down as chair of London’s Southbank Centre after serving two terms, with the organization stating he will leave in autumn 2026. Harriman’s announcement followed media allegations of antisemitism related to social media posts after the Golders Green attack in North London in April, allegations he has rejected; more than 30,000 people signed a petition supporting him, including Billy Bragg, Brian Eno, and Riz Ahmed. The UK’s Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) said the coverage “may raise a breach of the Editors’ Code of Practice” and gave the newspapers 28 days to resolve the matter with Harriman before escalation, according to Novara Media. Harriman said in an Instagram video on 23 June that his departure was planned in advance, and a Southbank spokesperson said he confirmed in January he would not seek a third term, with succession planning to be clarified after the AGM in July.
