More Than 300 Yayoi Kusama Works Take Over a German Museum

To mark its 50th anniversary, Museum Ludwig in Cologne has mounted a major Yayoi Kusama exhibition featuring more than 300 works spanning sculptures, paintings, and immersive installations. The presentation includes works not shown in the earlier Fondation Beyeler version and ahead of a later stop at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, including Kusama’s first installation, “Aggregation: One Thousand Boats Show” (1963), and the fluorescent installation “I’m Here but Nothing” (2000–). The show also debuts a newly commissioned Infinity Room in the museum’s largest hall and introduces painted bronze flower sculptures on the roof, including “Flowers That Speak All about My Heart Given to the Sky” (2018).
