Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá dismisses longtime artistic director
On 6 February 2026, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (Mambo) announced it would terminate the contract of its artistic director, the Italian curator and critic Eugenio Viola, who has led the museum since 2019. Viola told The Art Newspaper that the board ended his contract early after he raised concerns in September 2025 about deteriorating working conditions, which he said were shared by other staff. Mambo said the decision followed a “comprehensive and ongoing review” and that Viola will remain at the museum until May 2026 while a search for his successor proceeds. Founded in 1953, Mambo is one of Colombia’s leading cultural institutions.
