Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá's director departs amid accusations she harassed staff
The Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (Mambo) is seeking new leadership after director Martha Ortiz resigned earlier this month amid accusations of harassment and fostering a toxic workplace. Ortiz had taken the role in March 2024 despite having no prior museum leadership experience, and her exit follows the museum’s February dismissal of artistic director Eugenio Viola after seven years in the post. Board chair Ángela Royo will oversee strategic decisions while financial and administrative manager Francy Hernández handles administrative processes. More than 140 cultural figures—including David Manzur, Óscar Muñoz, Miler Lagos, and Delcy Morelos—signed an open letter demanding clear explanations for Viola’s removal; Viola says he warned the board about worsening conditions as early as late September 2025.
