New Digital Archive Honors Gaza Journalists Killed by Israel
Writers Against the War on Gaza (WAWOG) launched a digital memorial and oral-history project called “The Living Record” on August 12 to honor Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023, a toll the project places at around 240. The archive includes translated eulogies and profiles, including an oral tribute by independent journalist Doaa Shaheen to Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif, 28, who was killed with four other journalists on August 10, 2025 in a targeted Israeli strike on a media tent near al-Shifa Hospital. At launch, “The Living Record” published individual memorial pages for 24 journalists. The organizers said profiles and eulogies for another 21 journalists will be added throughout the fall, and the archive will continue expanding as a record of ongoing press fatalities.
