New James Turrell Work Debuts at Superblue in Miami
Superblue Miami is marking its five-year anniversary by debuting James Turrell’s Blue Sea Sky (2026), a new “Ganzfeld” installation in his long-running series begun in 1976, according to reporting cited by ARTnews. The work replaces Turrell’s AKHU (2021), which had been on loan since Superblue Miami opened in May 2021 in the Allapattah neighborhood. Superblue cofounder and chief curator Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst said the installation offers a shared immersion in pure color, with hues inspired by Miami’s ocean blues, palm greens, orange sunsets, and pink Art Deco neon. Blue Sea Sky is described as the fifth new work acquired by Superblue since opening, joining acquisitions such as Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s Pulse Topology (2021), installed in 2023.
