New Museum and Korea’s Ulsan Art Museum Inaugurate Partnership with Ho Tzu Nyen Commission
The New Museum in New York and Korea’s Ulsan Art Museum announced a multi-year partnership under the Hyundai Translocal Series, a Hyundai Motor Company initiative launched in 2025 as a 10-year program linking institutions through commissions, residencies, and touring exhibitions. The collaboration begins with a new commission by Singaporean multimedia artist and writer Ho Tzu Nyen, to be installed in the glass elevators of the New Museum’s recently inaugurated OMA redesign and also presented in Ulsan, a coastal city north of Busan. Ho represented Singapore at the 2011 Venice Biennale with “The Cloud of Unknowing” and received the Chanel Next Prize in 2024, the same year he had a mid-career survey at the Singapore Art Museum. New Museum acting director Regan Grusy and Ulsan Art Museum director Changsub Lim said the partnership aims to connect the institutions’ communities and explore tensions between global and local contemporary art contexts.
