OCAD University Presents Canada's Pavilion at the 2026 Gwangju Biennale

OCAD University is presenting Canada’s Pavilion at the 2026 Gwangju Biennale with “Skennen'kó:wa ken? (Do You Carry Great Peace?),” which opened on September 5 and runs through November 15, 2026. Curated by Ryan Rice of Onsite Gallery with Korean partner curator Lee Sun of the Lee KangHa Art Museum, the exhibition features three Kanien'kehá:ka artists—Hannah Claus, Melissa General, and Shelley Niro—whose practices draw on a Kanien’kehá:ka greeting centered on peace and mutual recognition. The pavilion emphasizes the political, cultural, and spiritual roles of Haudenosaunee women and explores rematriation and self-governance in dialogue with Gwangju’s history of democratic resistance. The project is presented with the Lee KangHa Art Museum, supported by Onsite Gallery and the Embassy of Canada to the Republic of Korea, and sponsored by David Binet.
