Paris to host first museum devoted to Alberto Giacometti with more than 10,000 artworks and objects

The Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti announced it will open the Giacometti Museum and School in Paris’s 7th arrondissement in 2028, described as the first museum dedicated to Alberto Giacometti. The new institution will occupy the former Invalides train station and provide around 6,000 sq. m of space, compared with the 350 sq. m Institut Giacometti that opened in 2018 as an interim venue. Director Catherine Grenier said the foundation holds more than 10,000 items, including thousands of drawings, over 400 sculptures, and 100 paintings, with many works never previously exhibited. The article also recounts how Giacometti’s widow Annette inherited his estate after he died intestate in 1966 and spent decades cataloguing and preserving the studio contents until her death in 1993.
