Phillips Has Sold Nearly $2 M. Worth of Art from Disgraced Art Adviser Lisa Schiff’s Collection
Phillips has sold $1.9 million worth of art and other items from disgraced art adviser Lisa Schiff’s holdings, totaling 231 pieces so far, with additional sales planned. Bankruptcy trustees retained Phillips to sell roughly 220 pieces and business inventory for creditors, with a combined presale estimate of about $2 million; Schiff’s creditors include Candace Carmel Barasch and Richard Grossman. Recent results include a 2022 Corydon Cowansage painting sold for $7,095 (estimate $6,000–$8,000) and a 1987 Richard Prince T-shirt print sold for $51,600 (estimate $20,000–$30,000) in an online auction that ended earlier this week; the highest price to date was Joel Mesler’s 2021 “Untitled (Bananas)” at $69,850 in February 2025. Schiff pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court in October 2024 to defrauding clients of $6.5 million, agreed to forfeit about $6.4 million, and was sentenced in March 2025 to two and a half years in federal prison; Phillips said mid-July sales will include works by Richard Prince (two), Chris Ofili, and Raymond Pettibon estimated together at $145,000–$205,000.
