Pierre Huyghe pushes the boundaries at the Beyeler

Fondation Beyeler in Riehen is presenting French artist Pierre Huyghe’s first solo exhibition in a Swiss museum as a “site-specific experience,” on view until 13 September. The show focuses on mostly recent works that combine technology and organic processes, extending Huyghe’s reputation from projects such as his Documenta 13 (2012) installation featuring compost, a beehive-headed sculpture replica, and a white dog named Human with one pink-painted leg. A key new work is Apnea (2026), described as an “artificial breathing organ” submerged in a glass water tank. The exhibition also includes the film Liminals (2025) and the video Camata (2024), which is continuously re-edited in real time via sensors embedded in the gallery space.
