Police Investigate Suspected Arson at Boston Museum of African American History
Boston police and federal authorities are investigating suspected arson at the Museum of African American History after a package of Juneteenth-related materials was set on fire outside the African Meeting House on Beacon Hill around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Security footage reportedly shows a man opening the package, scattering contents, and igniting items in an alley behind the historic building, according to police and museum president and CEO Noelle Trent. Investigators, including the National Park Service, are working with civil rights groups to assess a possible bias motive, though the incident has not been classified as a hate crime. Police released images of a suspect described as a white man wearing a dark jacket, dark pants, and white sneakers and asked the public for help identifying him.
