Police investigating DJ’s comments at Sydney Biennale opening following antisemitism allegations
New South Wales Police are investigating allegations of antisemitism tied to comments made by US performer Zubeyda Muzeyyen (DJ Haram) during the Sydney Biennale opening-night event at White Bay Power Station on March 13. On March 17, the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies, led by president David Ossip, filed a complaint letter asking police to investigate phrases including “long live the resistance,” “glory to all our martyrs,” and “It is our duty to oppose the vile Zio-Australian-Epstein empire.” The letter argued the language could be interpreted as advocating terrorism under Australia’s criminal code and as potentially inciting hatred under the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW), and it requested referral to the Australian Federal Police. Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirmed an investigation while noting that hate-speech offences have a high legal threshold; the Biennale said it was not aware of the details of the planned performance.
