Prominent art world figures named in latest Epstein files, including France's ex-culture minister Jack Lang
Newly released US Department of Justice documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, made public on 30 January 2026, name several prominent art-world figures, including former French culture minister Jack Lang, according to The Art Newspaper. The release—mandated by Congress in December 2025—was described as comprising three million pages, 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images, though many documents were heavily redacted; it includes an undated video showing Epstein with Lang at the Louvre pyramid. The files indicate Lang, 86, maintained contact with Epstein over an extended period and requested favors such as use of Epstein’s car and private plane, and they include communications involving Lang’s wife Monique and a luxury villa in Marrakech; Lang said he was introduced to Epstein around 15 years earlier by Woody Allen and said he did not know of Epstein’s crimes. Lang’s daughter Caroline Lang was also named, and she resigned on 2 February 2026 as president of the Independent Production Union; Mediapart reported that Epstein founded a US Virgin Islands company in 2016 with half its shares held by Caroline Lang.
